Criminalising Weird

This piece in the Guardian is very troubling. I thought it was time I gave you all some tips on how to avoid being arrested under anti-terrorism laws:

1) Don't be weird. This is the golden rule. Normal people dress normally, walk at a normal pace and it is normal to go outside only to go from A to B without doing anything weird along the way.

2) Taking photographs is weird. Making notes is weird. Doing sketches is weird. You're breaking the 'you only go outside to go from A to B rule' and therefore the police's suspicions will be aroused. Normal people only take pictures of their friends and family stood arranged in a line in front of some state approve tourist attraction. Professional photographers should be taking portraits in a studio, or chasing celebrities, or attending Press Conferences. Artistic photography is unnecessary and weird. Do Not Do.

3) Demonstrating a level of curiosity about something above 'normal' is weird. If you have to be curious about something, train up Secret Service levels of observation skills so that you can take in everything at a glance. Never stop in the middle of the street to look at something. Even slowing down is risky. It's weird and unnatural and obviously the police have to be suspicious.

I think you get the idea.

Spot on, Charlotte!

If we avoid these things (and therefore avoid arrest) does this mean that we'll be free?

Loving the irony, Labour!

Don't be in a minority that is so small it cannot comprise group to argue for its human rights. Trainspotters are fair game.

Yeah, it's rotten for train spotters.

It's just bullying. The school bullies are now running the Government and they're picking on the fat kids, the geeks, the smelly poor kids and the train spotters just like they always did.

I think the old slogan said it all: "For the many, not the few".

"Taking photographs is weird. Making notes is weird."

Damn. That makes me doubly weird.

On the other hand, "when the going gets weird, the weird turn pro" - Raoul Duke.
