I must be in the last generation of people that didn't have the internet as a teenager. What this meant was that most of the bands in my music collection were mysteries to me. I had the music and the album covers to go off, or if I was lucky I'd snatch a glimpse of a video or something on television. At the time we thought that the age of the music video was killing some of the mystery and mystique that bands used to be able to create. I'm thinking here about Led Zeppelin, for example. No music videos. No pictures. Just the music, and that's it.
Now, if you like a band, you can find out everything about them within minutes. You know what they look like, sound like, and what breakfast cereals they like. There's no mystery. Everythink's naked and exposed.

Which brings me to blogging (because I obviously do all my blogging in the buff wearing nothing but a cowboy hat and a pistol, like all good libertarians). I like being somewhat mysterious. I hate even having a photograph of me on this site. I love a good mystery and a good bit of suspense, and there's a part of me that thinks the pen-names and hidden faces of the blogging world is romantic and exciting. There's inherent drama in concealed identities - it arouses playful questions and stimulates curiosity. These are all great things for blogging. It's why blogging is good.
Of course, the longer you survive with people only knowing you from a tiny picture and a name , the more likely it is that seeing that blogger on television will be a somewhat underwhelming and disappointing experience.
But then, from the other point of view, I really want to see videos of other bloggers. Perhaps this is the way things will go - videos of each other will become so commonplace and routine that the mysterious side of blogging will disappear eventually.
Oh well. The world moves on (even if this blog post doesn't actually go anywhere)

I'm sorry I didn't clean the flat =(
Yeah exactly that
"I'm thinking here about Led Zeppelin, for example. No music videos."
Eh? Not hear of The Song Remains The Same? This is a collection of led zepplin vids stiched in to a film and relesed in 1976. The there's Pink Floyd live at Pompeii, 1971.
But I suppose the difference then was we were content to watch the bands as the music was so good and we didn't need some eye candy to entertain us.
PS Who needs those showy vids you see on MTV and thye like when you had entertainment like this:
