Interestingly the Gender Analyser is 73% certain that this blog is written by a man. It then asks, "correct or incorrect?" to which it then reveals that it guesses correctly 53% of the time, and guesses incorrectly 47% of the time (according to user submitted verification). Well done that team.But, see, I have some idea how these things work, having been curious about this sort of thing on and off. Sadly they do not publish their methodology but several of these things have been seen before and they've been more candid about their methods.
It's about how often you use the word, "I" because, apparently, women will avoid this word and prefer to refer to others, or omit the use of "I" altogether.
Also women are, apparently, more likely to add qualifiers - such as, "I feel" or "I believe" or "I think" and, "don't you think?" and "isn't it?" - or, I suppose, taking the first into account they'll say, "do you feel?" or "do you believe?". Yetch.
Because, you know, women never have an ego and women never feel able to express an opinion as an absolute. We speak in the language of selflessness, of deferring to others in matters of opinion and fact and considering ourselves unworthy topics of conversation.
Yeah whatever.

First you're a "leftie", now you're a man.
I think you're going through an identity crisis.
Help I'm turning into Darrell!!
We have strong indicators that http://news.bbc.co.uk/ is written by a woman (100%).
Now, I'm sure Auntie is a terribly responsible, equal opportunities type of employer, but come on... 100%?
Blimey ~ this will upset the yogurt knitters;
We guess http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/ is written by a woman (52%), however it's quite gender neutral.
We think http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk is written by a man (87%).
Last one before I go away and leave you alone;
We think http://www.cosmopolitan.co.uk/ is written by a man (89%).
lol.
You once wrote a blog post about wiping your arse. You're definitely a man.
I wrote about the wisdom of trusting animated bears for advice on the subject. ;)
Yeah, I'm 85% man but I guess that's because I follow those language rules.
I remember in one of my first full time jobs after Uni, temping in an office, I noticed the guy sitting next to me used to answer the phone with his name e.g. 'Hello, John Smith' (or whatever) but his female boss, the Team Leader, used to answer the phone 'Hello, Sales'.
I decided that for ever more I was going to answer the telephone with my name rather than the department that I was working for. Something I do to this day. This is because the guy, to my mind, thought anybody ringing up would care that they were speaking to him and people regularly assumed he was the team leader (although this was the early nineties, so hey would probably assume that anyway).
What I learnt from that observation clearly works as I do tend to write in I's and genderanalyzer picks up on that.
